A few months ago, Phil Hecken from the website Uni Watch put out a call for readers to reimagine what the XFL would look like today if the #XFL hadn't folded. This was also a contest, in part, to the rumors (which are now true) that Vince McMahon was bringing the XFL back to life.
Well, I entered the competition with a concept that mixed both the Letter Fronted uniform concepts with pattern sublimation. It is a simple/clean look yet didn't push many boundaries and didn't gain much traction among readers.
There were some realllllly awesome concepts which you can find here (Part I) and here (Part II) with the winner determined here (THE FINALS).
To be honest, I was a big fan of the Geometric patterns applied to Aaron Jaffe's design.
Here's my entry:
Now, I was fairly disappointed that I kept it so safe. That is my M.O... but I decided to go back and give it another whirl. I went into unsafe territory. I tried to design some patterns which all turned out bad. Then I realized I had downloaded a cool design called Shiny Red Wave Background from Freepik by concepter Harryarts. I then went to Spoon Graphics and found some awesome Topographical patterns to add a... LendaSport feel to the design. I also found some inspiration looking through the Paladin Sport catalogue. I also used a base from #GarbAthletic for all of my designs since they are the ones who partnered with #UniWatch for this contest.
Yeah, I am admitting my sins which doesn't absolve me of anything. Yet my finished product is part curiosity and part... WHY DID YOU DO THIS?!?!?!
The Font I used is from PixelSurplus called Ridgeline with some spurs thrown into the Numbers from the Rebel Bones Font.

Futbol as Football Series: FC Vaduz
Futbol as Football Series: #FCVaduz from the #SwissChallengeLeague from #LiechtensteinI want to do at least one team from each of the #Principalities of Europe. I've done Luxembourg, I've done a squad from Gibraltar (yeah, I know they are a territory of England, but they're tiny and I'm lumping them into this list) and I will do one from Andorra, San Marino, and maybe transform AS Monaco into a squad.
Now, why Vaduz?
Their badge. Their Badge. Their Badge!
It was MEANT TO BE ON A FOOTBALL HELMET!!!
Dear me, I love it.
Since the The #PrincelyClub is an Adidas team and their kits from last year are pretty cool (theirs from this year are clean and simple, yet I like the sublimated hoops and think they'd been an easy transfer... maybe because I'm #lazy) and they look like they were made for the new #CFL's football jersey template.
Not much to say... It's pretty straightforward and I hope these #Gridiron concepts don't disappoint and properly represents the Pride of Liechtenstein!

Futbol as Football Series: FC Sheriff Tiraspol
Futbol as Football Series: FC Sheriff Tiraspol from the Moldovan Divizia Națională.
First off, I just want to say I am not trying to make a Dallas Cowboys uniform in Pittsburgh Steelers colors. Yeah, I'm a Cowboys fan and yes you can add in your standard Cowboys smirk here -- I'm okay with that.
I chose to make this concept after receiving some guests from Moldova and because of their crest - a wild west sheriff's badge! It is so simple and straight forward that I was able to reduced it to just the background five points for the helmet sticker.
Sheriff Tiraspol is on the top end of the ladder in Moldova's National Division and has caused a ruckus in years past within the Eurpoa Cup. I'm sure if you are apart of the opposition and see the Gold and Black on the pitch you know you'll be in for a dogfight!
Or a Showdown at the Tiraspol Saloon or whatever wild west cliche you can think of ;).
I chose Sheriff's 2014/15 home uniform to base my American/Canadian Football concepts on because of the yoke and sleeve pattern. For my "Generic template" I based my design on the Montreal Alouettes' yoke and sleeve cap design. I didn't include a stripe around the shoulder like the Als and the NY Jets for my final products.
Sheriff is an Adidas squad and for my inspiration I decided to pattern my "Real World" template on a league that has recently changed to the Three-Stripes: The CFL. I chose a "Real World" template similar to designs worn by Calgary, Saskatchewan and the BC Lions. I used a three stripe design similar to the multiple-line style of the Hamilton Ti-Cats (and maybe just a little tip-of-the-cap to Adidas) for the pant stripe and around the neck.

NFL, CFL and NCAA football as Australian Football
I started this project a long time ago and I had kinda sorta forgotten about it. Since the Football as Football project has come to fruition (and my goodness there are some cool badges there. The Dallas ones could use some extra love), I have decided to finally share with the world my take on "What if..." the NFL, CFL and NCAA football were Aussie rules teams. Some of these designs are based on older versions of team uniforms (see Jacksonville) and could use some updating. In the CFL section the only team missing is the new Ottawa RedBlacks.
I love the AFL (I barrack for Essendon if you were wondering) and wanted to adapt American/Canadian football uniforms into footy guernseys. I tried to use current symbols, stripes and styles from the respective leagues with a few embellishments here and there. I also used sponsorships (inspired by this project found here) from local businesses with a few wild cards thrown in here and there.
Without further ado, let's start in the NFL with the AFC.
Sponsorships - Gillette and Dunkin Donuts (team partners)

Now let's get into the NFC.
(yes, I kept the pants different colors)
Sponsorships - Sunoco and Lincoln Financial
Sponsorships - Mall of America and Target
From the NFL to the CFL we go!
Finally, the NCAA. I mainly did these in pairs for current rivals across the NCAA such as BYU and Utah, Army/Navy, UNC/NC State; new rivals such as Wyoming/Boise State; and former/old rivals such as Fresno State/San Diego State, Youngstown State/Akron; and hypothetical rivals Wichita State/Pittsburg State.
