Futbol as Football Series: Tromsø Idrettslag

Futbol as Football Series: Tromsø Idrettslag from the Norwegian Tippeligaen. 

The Lads' crest seemed just the perfect fit for a helmet. 

Simple, classy and straight-to-the-point! I tried to incorporate their traditional stripes to either the yoke or the front of the jersey.  This team has the distinction of being one of the Northern Most futbol squads in Norway and possibly the world and there are a few Trip-Hop/Downtemp/Techno acts which come from the area (namely Royksopp and Frost).

I used the Graystroke font for the names and numerals.

Futbol as Football series: FC Zugdidi



FC Zugdidi from Georgia's Umaglesi Liga .

 Trying to find their current shield and kit was diffffficult! Their stallion symbol is extremely close to Norfolk Southern Railroad's and I incorporated their 5 stripes into the jersey piping, epaulets, pants, helmet and socks. The castle from their crest is placed on the back of the helmet and featured on the front of their jersey.

Fonts: Uni Sans for English, Grigolia for Georgian, Racing Font for the shield and Helmet Z as well as the numbers.

Futbol as Football Series: FBC Melgar

FBC Melgar from Peru's Torneo Descentralizado.

  I incorporated the team's halved jersey, changed the halved sleeve color on their seconds into a chest stripe and added a buffalo plaid third from the El Domino's past for my concepts. Plus I added a unique stripe to their pants and helmet just to see how a design like that would work.

 Fonts: Modern - SP Complex, Deco - Righteous, Chest lettering - Sonsie One. On the Reduced Shield - Rex Bold.

Futbol as Football Series: ThespaKusatsu Gunma

ThespaKusatsu Gunma from J-League2 in Japan. 

 I tried to stay as close as possible to their kit this season as possible. I incorporated the Heat rising symbols from the lion's mouth on the sides of the helmets while using a reduced crest on the shoulders. 

 While doing research for the squad I decided to follow their facebook page to see how they are doing during their campaigns!

Futbol as Football Series: HŠK Zrinjski Mostar

HŠK Zrinjski Mostar from the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

 Before I knew about Tennessee's redesign from Nike, I had incorporated the Croatian checker pattern into the Noblemen's pant stripes to reflect the team's crest.

 Swearsies!!

 In this series of concepts I try not to reinvent the team shields, just scale them down for a more American/Canadian football feel. I'll either place the restyled crests on the helmet, an element on the side or just go hog wild with something different.

 I also used their traditional sash as shoulder stripes and I think that turned out fairly well!

Fonts used: Numbers - Lifestyle M54 1 and Brig 3, NOB - Evgoria.

Futbol as Football Series

I, for one, am a big fan of the Football as Football project where American Football squad logos are reimagined as European football clubs. It's a fun exercise and keeps the imagination pumping. Heck, there have been a few projects which have gone so far as to create complete liveries for NFL squads in futbol gear.

About six months ago I decided to, uhhh, "reverse engineer" a project somewhat in the vein of the two I have just mentioned. I did a similar project by re-imagining North American Football teams as Australian Football squads and now it is time for a different direction.

Are you ready for some FUTBOL?

I have chosen teams either from random selection via The Random Country Generator (I can't remember all that are either random or not) or because I like the squads' crest and/or nickname. Also, I try to stay somewhat true to the teams current or fairly recent kits including fonts, designs, etc.

There will also be a few where I go in a completely different direction.

For helmet stickers I usually minimized different club badges so they better fit a Football motif

Give credit where credit is due!

I need to give credit to Peter Willard and the Rail Sim Stuff crew. I have experimented with the Norfolk Southern and a few other of their fonts for my football uniforms and I need to give them the props they are due.
